ESA letter in Florida, written to your state's rules.

Florida law is written specifically to shut out instant, no-consultation letters. It asks who wrote your letter and whether they actually know you โ€” which is exactly how our process works.

Florida law

Florida requires a practitioner with personal knowledge of your disability

Florida Statute 760.27 lets a housing provider request supporting information when a disability or a disability-related need for the animal is not readily apparent. That information is only reliable if it comes from a health care practitioner as defined in section 456.001, a telehealth provider as defined in section 456.47, or a similarly licensed practitioner in good standing in another state โ€” and only where that practitioner has personal knowledge of your disability and is acting within the scope of their practice. An out-of-state practitioner counts only if they have provided in-person care to the tenant on at least one occasion, which is why we match Florida residents with a Florida-licensed clinician. A housing provider may not request information disclosing your diagnosis or severity, or your medical records, and may request information about each animal if you are asking for more than one.

Housing

What your Florida landlord may and may not ask.

Under the federal Fair Housing Act, a housing provider must consider a reasonable accommodation request for an assistance animal, including where pets are prohibited.

  • They may ask for reliable documentation of a disability-related need for the animal when it is not readily apparent.
  • They may not ask for your diagnosis, its severity, or your medical records.
  • Pet fees do not apply to an approved assistance animal, though you remain responsible for any damage it causes.
  • We handle follow-up โ€” if your housing provider questions the letter, your clinician responds directly at no extra cost.

Florida FAQ

Florida questions.

Does Florida require an in-person visit for an ESA letter?

Only for out-of-state practitioners, who must have provided in-person care on at least one occasion. A Florida-licensed telehealth provider under section 456.47 with personal knowledge of your disability satisfies the statute, which is the route we use.

What can a Florida landlord ask me for?

They may request reliable supporting information about the disability and the disability-related need for the animal when it is not readily apparent, and proof that the animal meets state and local licensing and vaccination requirements. They may not ask for your diagnosis, its severity, or your medical records.

Can I get a Florida ESA letter for two animals?

Yes, but the statute allows a housing provider to request information about the specific need for each animal. Your clinician documents each animal separately in that case.

How much does an ESA letter cost in Florida?

$149 for a housing letter, $199 together with a psychiatric service dog letter, or $99 for a PSD letter and consultation on its own. The consultation and landlord verification support are included, and the price is the same across every state.
