How do I get an ESA letter?
Complete a free screening, meet a clinician licensed in your state in a live video or phone consultation, and receive a signed letter if the clinician determines you qualify. There is no registry to join and no certificate to buy — the clinician's letter is the document with legal standing.
Do I have to talk to someone?
Yes. A live consultation is mandatory here. A letter written without an evaluation is not a clinical document, and a housing provider who checks will treat it accordingly.
What does the consultation cover?
Your history, how your condition affects daily activities, and the specific support your animal provides. The clinician does not need to disclose your diagnosis in the letter, and a housing provider may not ask for it.
How long does the whole process take?
Signed PDF within 24 to 48 hours of your consultation. Same-day evaluations are often available for early bookings. California, Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana and Montana require a 30-day client-provider relationship first, so letters there are issued on day 31.
What is actually in the letter?
Confirmation from a licensed professional that you have a disability-related need for the assistance animal, the animal it applies to, the clinician's license type, license number and jurisdiction, the effective date, and a signature on letterhead.
